I'll move away from Fosstodon soon.
The reason is, that I'd like to toot in German sometimes, which is (understandably) not allowed here.

My new home will be @Anoxinon and transition will (hopefully) be very easy, thanks to the Fediverse & Mastodon.

Some last words: Thank you Fosstodon, it's a very friendly and cool place here, and I enjoyed my time being part of this instance.

See you all from the other side!

@glsbank was haltet ihr vom Bezahlsystem GNU Taler [1]? Plant ihr es in Zukunft zu unterstützen oder arbeitet ihr vielleicht sogar schon daran?

"Linux is without exaggeration a foundation of the digital society".

Yep. For over 30 years, GNU/Linux as well as free & open source software at large have been changing the world for the better.

Update in the Metatrans Repo I introduced recently:

apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index.p

They're true to their word: another 3 apps have been open-sourced now :awesome: They're working really hard on it. Preparations to bring the first apps to @fdroidorg are ongoing, and look like not being too far into the future. They are open to dropping the remaining Google-dependencies entirely, investigating alternative methods of "income". I'm optimistic!

Took some time and set up a space to aggregate and curate scientific communities and topics on #Matrix. It can be hard to find good, serious communities relevant to your interests, so this is my initiative to make it easier.

It has subspaces for natural sciences, #mathematics and computer #science (which also has a subspace for programming languages), as well rooms such as "Ask Science" and "Philosophy of Science".

For anyone interested, you can find the space via this link: matrix.to/#/!lBZPyclsQiWAwbHjT

Boosts are welcome. Would be nice if this could be a thing, especially given the experimental support for LaTeX in Element's composer it could be of some interest to scientific communities.

Hey #Fediverse! Like so many other #FreeSoftware projects, keeping #FDroid up and running is a community effort. Have you ever contributed to any #FLOSS Project?

Tipp: Richtet bei eurem Mobilfunkanbieter eine sog. Drittanbietersperre ein. Dann können andere Anbieter nicht über die Mobilfunkrechnung abrechnen. Wirkungsvoller Schutz gegen Betrug.

The advantages of #CellBroadcasts in short:

✅ reduced bottlenecks due to high efficiency sending
✅ established standard since 1990
✅ relatively cheap
✅ everyone is warned, even short-term tourists
✅ independent from mobile internet
✅ works even if telephony/SMS/internet is overloaded
✅ no apps required

➡️ Warning apps are a useful *extension*, but not the *basis*. [2/2]

what my girlfriend thought dating a software engineer would be like: "honey, I got an AI robot maid to do all our cooking for us"

what dating a software engineer is actually like: "if that microwave connects to the internet we're heating all our food with a blowtorch from now on"

Dear developers, you encounter an open source project and feel enticed to check out their community. Discord is mentioned as the only place where the discussions take place.

Your reaction?

A - Great, I already have an account anyway.
B - Ok, I'd be willing to join if the project is interesting enough.
C - Not ok, I will not be part of those discussions.
D - Other (see comment)

Boosts appreciated (research for blog post).

#CallOut to our #Android devs:

GpsIcon needs help. No idea why this useful featue was ditched with Android 4.4: a GPS indicator that blinked when looking for a signal, and switched to steady when a fix was aquired. The tiny app (<50k!) even shows how many sats were found already, and how much are used for a fix.

But with Android 10, it not longer works reliably, see github.com/Limizin/GpsIcon/iss – and the author has no idea how to fix that.

Anyone? Boosts welcome!
