Fitness and running related

This toot is for all you runners out there in the Fediverse, new or experienced, young or old.

I'm trying to build my blog up slowly and create content, but I'd really like to know what people would like to read.

I'm not loaded, so I can't buy loads of gear to review.

@gray personally, I'd love to read about how to get into running without hating it

Fitness and running related

@tychi Hah! Interesting, I like it.

Fitness and running related

@gray please tag me if you write it, so I don't miss it πŸ˜…πŸ‘€

Fitness and running related

@tychi I absolutely will, thank you for your suggestion!

Fitness and running related

@gray I'm with @tychi on this one. I run, but it's something I do so when I find myself in a situation I hate I can always say, "Could be worse, I could be running." Probably doesn't help that I have all the grace of a charging rhino when I'm running. Those people that just effortlessly glide over the ground like they're just trying not to fly annoy me, but only because I'm super jealous.

Fitness and running related

@mike @tychi Hah! :) Some people are far too talented for their own good.

Fitness and running related

@gray I'd love to read tips for people who start running after 30 or so.
Also tips on choosing the right shoes and terrain to prevent injuries.

Fitness and running related

@mgiagante fantastic, thank you!

Fitness and running related

@gray Please do share that url when it's ready! I'm looking forward to reading.

Fitness and running related

@mgiagante Yes, shoes. My current running shoes look like this, and I'm guessing that's a bad thing.

@gray

Fitness and running related

@mgiagante Tip number 1 - don't wear @mike shoes.

Fitness and running related

@gray Ha! I figured as much. I go through probably 1.5 pairs of shoes a year, which seems high to me. As you can see, I'm in the market for a new pair, so get to recommending already!! :)

@mgiagante

Fitness and running related

@mike @gray is that the natural deterioration of the shoe?

Fitness and running related

@mgiagante Natural deterioration? I guess so? It's what has happened to them over the last seven or eight months of use. I don't think I'm particularly rough on shoes, but I do put 10-15 miles (15-25 KM) on them a day. This isn't the first pair I've demolished like this. Seems like around the normal life span for a pair of my shoes.

@mgiagante @gray Ditto to this. Tips and resources on injury prevention / rehab would be great. (Minor but persistent Achilles tendon problems in my case.) And I started running at 46! 🀣

@mootParadox

Great suggestions, I'll see what I can come up with! Ouch on that Achilles pain though.

@gray @mgiagante I started the couch to 5k earlier in the year, but wasn't exactly a couch potato - I was swimming, hiking, rock climbing, but felt like I needed more cardio. With hindsight I probably increased the distance too quickly. There's some great advice on the Doc on the Run podcast: docontherun.com/ worth a listen if you haven't already...

Fitness and running related

@mootParadox @gray Great stuff. Thanks for sharing!

@gray running is the worst. So I dunno.

Maybe if you aren't in a position to do deep dive reviews of objects, maybe do it for methodologies. Downside is to do this with person experience would be hugely time expensive. So may often need to be based on third party research.

Fitness and running related

@basil this is very much the time of year to try different things πŸ‘

Fitness and running related

@gray I am super interested in everything that comes up, please share your blogs when they are ready. For me, a question or a topic that could interest me would be how to set reasonable goals and how to achieve 'em, building momentum and stuff like that.

Especially in these lockdown times it's often easier to just sit down and let my belly fat grow lol.

Fitness and running related

@kriive Fantastic suggestions thank you!

Here's the rss feed: blog.wildridgefitness.uk/rss/

There's not much there right now, just the odd post. And yes, it is most certainly easier to sit in front of the TV and relax :D
