Obi-Wan

I keep thinking "Kill her already!" Maybe it's simply because I don't like children, but young Leia is so annoying in that whiney over-acting way. I know she's only a child, but please get her home soon so she can go away.

ends the development of Atom. The project and the organization will be archived on 15 December 2022.

Does anybody know a way to, in the web page build process (Webpack), make sure all external links on a web page have "noreferrer" added?

Disconnecting from big tech social networks works if you have an existing, fulfilling life. If you're like me and are alone and looking for friends and a social life, it's very difficult being limited to the Fediverse.

I've been told I'm "wrong" in the past and it's my fault because the Fediverse is just as viable as other options. But the honest truth is I miss out on events, concerts, meetups and opportunities because I refuse to be active on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

My prediction:

Replacement of CoreData with SwiftData, except, and here's the twist, it requires your schema to be approved by a new review team known simply as "The Four Horsemen". If rejected you're never heard from again.

I'm not sure I'd recommend Crimes of the Future. I mean, it's exactly what you'd expect. But slower than I hoped, I guess.

I’m at the theater to see Crimes of the Future. I’ll report back.

OwnCast is a sort of Fediverse alternative to Twitch. It lets people host their own video livestream with a chat window at the side, and OwnCast accounts can be followed from Mastodon etc.

You can find out more about @owncast at owncast.online, and they have a directory of streamers at directory.owncast.online

If you follow an OwnCast account from Mastodon, you will see a post from them in your timeline telling you when the account has gone live.

Also, if you follow an OwnCast account or boost its posts, this will appear in the livestream's chat window (see the attached picture).

Some OwnCast accounts you can try following right now include:

@live (soulful house music shows)

@hatnix (Linux gaming streams)

@Hamish - (retro gaming streams)

(Note that some OwnCast accounts do not have Fediverse switched on yet, so they won't be visible on Mastodon etc)

I'm running an unsupported version of Nextcloud, but at this point I'm afraid of trying to update it because I don't trust that mess of PHP scripts to have a good upgrade path and not wipe all my data in some kind of failed migration. Sure, I have backups, but having a working Nextcloud is something I rely on.

Nextcloud falls into that weird place where I like it, and use it, but it's always kind of been a mess and once it works I don't touch it.

Listened to a recent interview with Jack Dorsey and all these years later and he's still complaining about 3rd party developers on Twitter. He said all of Twitter's problems were due to 3rd party developers using their API so it made him not want to create an API for Square. It explains a lot about how Twitter has treated developers over the years.

I miss working with Apple frameworks, Swift, Objective-c, and even Xcode, but I don't at all miss building mobile UIs.

I just accidentally pressed the phone call button in Matrix/Element and no matter what I did I couldn't cancel the call. It wouldn't even let me gracefully exit the software so I had to log out of the service completely before it would let me quit the software so I could stop the phone ringing. Now when logging back in it wants me to re-verify myself through "other sessions". What other sessions? Sessions of what?

I signed up for the San Francisco Linux User Group mailing list. And while the group doesn't look very active these days, it's so nice to be exposed to Linux discussion that isn't just talk of the Streamdeck or how to make Windows apps run better on Linux.

I think it's time for an unironic Skiffle revival.

I love that both Vulcans and Klingons have a specific ceremony for every circumstance that they know and understand without question, even though it's always an exception or rare occurrence that they're doing it.

"We must take part in the ancient observation of Thursday evening at 5:32pm that requires a very specific ceremonial reciting of text that everybody in our race knows even though this particular ceremony has not been invoked in thousands of years."

I had a dream last night that John Lennon faked his death and was discovered to be living in the desert. And no, the dream didn't get a chance to find out what Yoko thought of the entire thing.

I hadn't heard of this before. It's only 18min long if you have access to it. It feels very real.

"A young man's life is suddenly and inexplicably derailed, as he finds himself at the mercy of automated justice."

I get a kick out of every time a Twitch fanperson attacks Owncast with the "You can't do that, only Twitch can do that!" argument.

The best way for Owncast to be something that's useful to the most people is to hear what people have to say, so here's an attempt to create an opportunity to do that.

Are you a current or prospective streamer who is interested in providing thoughts, feedback, or have questions to ask 1 on 1? Or you're interested in other aspects of the project from an open source, integration, or Fediverse prospective?

Find a few minutes to chat about Owncast! owncast.online/1-1/
