Can we please, please – PLEASE! not make the nonsensical US date format month/day/year the default in applications? 🤦‍♂️

And to all users of that format: it makes no sense, it's counter-intuitive, it makes collaboration frustrating, it introduces inconsistencies and errors... Just stop. Please. Use international standards.
(And don't get me started on your other units of weights, volumes and distances. Bloody hell.)

Boost if I'm right.

@lightweight @mackiwg

I tried this basic idea and it works well but I can only achieve about 13 FPS. It would be great to get to 24-30 FPS but I could not find a way.

I guess MicroSoft has taken to heart the strategy, "if you can't beat them join them" (which of course still means, embrace extend extinguish).

@kensanata @Gina

> If the starter is not ready, the bread will not rise as much, and so you get very dense bread.

When this happens we just rename it "biscotti" and call it a success! 😋

@kev That seems like a pretty reasonable response to me.

Since mastodon.sozial is "limiting my account" because I'm using a x-poster to Twitter: what general :mastodon: instance practicing more freedom would you recommend to me to move my account to?

Who will be first up against the wall?

In the revolution we will not have firing squads.

In the revolution we will not have guillotines.

In the revolution we will have Free Software controlled robot chainsaws.

The biggest problem with WFH so far is that I get too much done too quickly that I overtake my plans.

Normally there are so many interruptions during the day that I'm constantly reviewing what I need to do just to get up to speed again and that gives me time to think of the next steps. Sort of a meta-flow state.

I may actually have to stop and intentionally think out my next steps. That's kind of frightening.

@emacsen 10/1 ratio, oh my. Sounds dire.

You know the old joke about the scientist. He has a wife and a mistress so that his wife thinks he's with the mistress and the mistress thinks he's with the wife. This allows him plenty of time to be free to work in the lab.

@openrisk very lovely. Makes me wish that A: I could play guitar and B: I could get JACK working.

@hjertnes @annika

I know one across the isle that belongs in an institution for the criminally insane.

@openrisk I had never heard of gulp. Reading `apt-cache show gulp` I see it's a kind of meta-build system. For that, I happen to reach for

Also, cat is usually gone too fast for me to kill. :D

@diodelass ROOT would support this. Eg, one might save a TGraph. The result is effectively a gzipped binary list of (x,y,value) tuples. ROOT's a big software dependency to take on. If you are working in Python then "uproot" is a smaller, compatible package. Big caveat that ROOT's format popularity is fairly minimal outside particle/nuclear physics world.

I worked from home today. But, just as training in case it becomes required.

What? It's my form of prepping.

Four hours today at the DMV to get "REAL ID" drivers license.

I'm questioning my critical thinking skills right now.

@OTheB Of course, it can get worse. Case in point, YAML+Jinja2 templates.

Today I worked from home. I'd guess it's 50% more efficient and I don't waste an hour in a tin can on the road with other angry people in their tin cans.

@abemusicentropy I think I managed to fix more bugs than I introduced. So, not a bad day.

How was yours?

@wizzwizz4 I don't normally visit it but trying it now (from inside the US), it loads quickly and looks good with firefox+uMatrix. The latter blocks something like eight 3rd party sites worth of content.

I'm actually surprised USA Today rendered so well. Many "news" sites are blank with uMatrix active. When they fail to load, it's often a good sign to me they aren't worth visiting in the first place. 🤔
