I am certain that open-sourcing software makes it inherently more secure, at least for projects with enough public eyes and white-hats looking for vulnerabilities. Probably also reduces code complexity, could potentially also mean documentation of higher quality.
@frederikstroem I 100% agree with you! Open source projects can also be extremely beneficial to see the code structure and different solutions. You can learn a lot from what other people did.
