@flyingpimonster GNU/Linux has always had some sort of unique features that made it look like a platform, an platformless example would be electron apps and at least i know i don't want a single electron app running on my computer.

So most people will agree that it is healthy to develop DE's into platforms, so imo the problem is not that GNOME pursues that, as a whole the GNU/Linux community has always been somewhat polarized, even in the GNOME 2 days.
