Reading Latex log files does not spark joy.

For my Linux box I can confirm fonts mattered. It took me a while to pick a suitable font set and configure the system such that the right fonts were chosen in the right order.

For a while all early emoji like 😄 where only shown black and white, more common ones like 🤖 worked, and more recent, fancy ones like 🤯 were not shown at all. Fixing fonts and font config solved the problem for me.

I am using xinetd or an equivalent tool.

Idea for a hacker suspense movie inspired by the "atd" daemon.

$ man batch
[...]
batch executes commands when system load levels permit; in other words, when the load average drops below 0.8, or the value specified in the invocation of atd.
[...]

Protagonist hacker enters server. Competing hacker/organisation installed automatic security measures (reporting, max program run time, ...), but accidentally only via "batch".

So hacker needs to get the job done, while keeping the server load high.

I heard people often used two spaces after the period in (La)TeX documents, to make sentence endings easier to detect automatically. With only one space it is not always clear when using abbreviations like "e.g.", "a.k.a.", or less common ones. Some people might just transfer that habit to other media.

IIRC I learned about that supposed origin when somebody was asked why they used two spaces after a sentence-ending dot in an _email_. :x

I haven't gotten around to have a look myself yet, but I couldn't find many recent news after March 2020.

Do you happen to know whether the library is extended and used? I hope it wasn't just creating a stir one time and then that's it.

@famubu Yes, probably.

I think Minecraft is so big now that this would face some resistance even from non-activists. But I don't know how much that changes or whether at least it could buy some time.

@FLauenroth It is real!
You can find more media reports linked on the website of the Library (check link above).

The Uncensored Library is a server and a downloadable map. Instructions on the website.

One Raspberry Pi I have in some basement has an uptime of 508 days. From what I gathered that's not necessarily a lot, I heard of many servers with a longer uptime. The last reboots were due to necessary cable rearrangement and a power outage.

@be When the GTK file dialog is open, you can hit Ctrl+L to turn the "path buttons" into a textbox that also provides auto-complete.

It might be possible to configure this as default behaviour somewhere in the GTK config file, but I've never explored that possibility.
