Has anyone else stopped getting excited about new tech? It's just like "cool, a new thing to invade my privacy".

Bitcoin is very much like Apple's CSAM detection. A noble idea implemented in probably the worst way possible.

This is what happens if you put an inefficient prototype into production environment. Bitcoin was a proof of concept for decentralized ledgering system. It served its purpose, we should leave it at that and make a better system from what we learned.

@dajbelshaw Nice write-up of different approaches. I find myself wondering about the politics of these solutions, and how that plays into what becomes realistic. I’ll check out Vinay’s work for more background. Thanks!

Now that’s dope. #Gnome / gnome-shell-extensions comes with a watermark extension that can be tweaked 😲 – it usually shows the dist logo but can show any image. (beko.famkos.net/t/1qfr)

a friendly reminder (mostly for myself) that grace and understanding is very lacking in our world. Thanks for allowing me to share ideas and thoughts in this wonderful space! Let's keep the good stuff going.

Just a reminder, it is not just the tech overlords that want to know everything about you. Credit card companies have been tracking you for years. And for me, a small rock climbing gym in New England that knows my birthday so they can send me a coupon for a free day. (Give me a break, I was only 18). Delete

@Brynjar Sounds about right. A simple question leads to a rabbit hole (or several). Certainly worth it for the learning.

I was wishing for better default terminal color schemes, and today came across this project. Exactly what I was looking for!

I got my Frame.work DIY laptop today with:

Intel® Core™ i7-1185G7
32GB (1 x 32GB) DDR4-3200
Intel® Wi-Fi 6E AX210 No vPro®
2TB - WD_BLACK™ SN750 NVMe™

Plus these expansion cards

1 HDMI
2 USB-C
1 USB-A

Assembled it in half an hour. Installed Manjaro Gnome 21.1.1 and everything works, including the fingerprint reader.

I'm using it now, and it's already my favorite laptop. #righttorepair

I've been flopping around the internet looking for better hosting, but it hasn't gone well so far.

Any ideas?

@dajbelshaw First I have heard of it. What are your initial impressions?

I really hope these guys succeed, to show the business model works. Here in (almost) Europe, Fairphone seems to have found their niche -- at least they are still in business.

Apple quoted me $800 to replace a screen, so for the last two years I have been looking at slowly moving yellow spots...
