Has anyone else stopped getting excited about new tech? It's just like "cool, a new thing to invade my privacy".

The most “prolific” Apache OpenOffice committer can’t even do C++ right. His commits are purely cosmetic, apparently to achieve a quota of activity the Apache Foundation requires projects to have to stay “graduated”, hiding the fact AOO is practically dead.

Imagine the far better world today, not only if Nixon had left Allende alone, but if Carter had let Daoud Khan run Afghanistan rather than initially start what would become the Mujaheddin and the Taliban, or Eisenhower had let Mosaddegh run Iran. Modern American corporate "interests" and their consequences have killed so many million of lives.

John Gruber only has followers because he resonates with the lots and lots of morons who follow the kind of hyperbolic, borderline fallacious language he uses.

"As we learn to bear the intimacy of scrutiny and to flourish within it, as we learn to use the products of that scrutiny for power within our living, those fears which rule our lives and form our silences begin to lose their control over us."

@mate Thanks for existing! I still loathe the GNOME Shell.

I just recently realised, that proprietary social networks are not social networks but entertainment networks. That's why at least my friends have a hard time switching to mastodon or pixelfed. People expect to be highly entertained the first second they enter the network and kept that way all the time. Being confronted with a network that is stripped from all these addictive tools is a massive cultural clash.

You want people to trust science? Remove the profit motive. Decouple science from capitalism. Do away with patents. Do away with closed silos. Ensure 100% transparency and openness. Create and share in the open for the common good.

@seachaint @eloquence @furkachi These issues are why I'm now advocating the term "cooperative technology" to move on from both "free software" and "open source". It gets the point across better than either and I think it will be harder for capitalists to coopt. Interestingly, it was discussed at the meeting where the term "open source" was settled on, but "open source" was chosen because it was watered down ideologically and therefore acceptable to capitalists. fosstodon.org/@be/105983348184

We're currently expecting a check from MuseGroup for doing their dirty laundry.
