if i'm jury-rigging a ubuntu box to function as a temporary internet router to a bunch of servers with dhcp, is sysctl.net.ipv4_forward the only thing i need, or do I also need to masquerade the NAT?

@trhr You need to masquerade if using rfc1918 (192.168.x.x etc) IP's on the systems that require internet access

@espenator let's say i've got a static IP block provided by the datacenter; if I forward that block to the resulting boxes via my temporary router, will everything just work?

Follow

@trhr If they have public routable IPs it should, boxes send packet to router and router just forwards them to the next hop in the chain
