"New designs of Huawei smartphones are set to lose access to some Google apps. The move comes after the Trump administration added Huawei to a list of companies that American firms cannot trade with unless they have a licence."

I think Trump invented a briljant way to create new competitors for the Android OS.

@ericbuijs as someone pointed out earlier, huawei is working on its own linux as well.
hopefully it will get further than maemo and others.

Not likely, China has their own linux sys called "qilin OS" and it isn't practical. Due to the highly favour of Windows of user. And I think it's same with linux phone. By the way, the users I mentioned are goverment security employees, not random chinese.

@ericbuijs maybe also some more competition for Google... One can hope..

@ericbuijs The Chinese put pressure on Trump by not making a deal, among other things, and leaving him twisting in the wind. Trump is applying pressure back. I expect that one of or both parties will blink, realizing a trade war is not in either's best interests. I don't expect this to be long lasting.

Samsung had Tizen as replacement for android which mimic Samsung's android launcher and look and feel. At certain point they wanted to swap both OSs, but that was some years ago.

The last news I had on this topic was about Tizen in low end devices and some cameras

@ericbuijs
It is possible to fork Android, since it is open source.

这哥们儿的视角也很有意思。川普打击华为,事实上防止了谷歌安卓对市场的垄断,促进了竞争?
