Many are using Keybase to prove their identity across various services. However, it is by far not the best choice for this:
• it tries to get hold of your private OpenPGP key, which is just wrong
• it was acquired by Zoom in 2020 and hasn’t posted updates ever since
• it doesn’t have proofs for Gitea, IRC, XMPP, and other fedi services
• its server is not open-sourced
If you don’t use Keybase for their messengers, file storage or Stellar, don’t use it at all! Check next toot for an alternative
@kytta @yarmo I saw this pop up yesterday on the orange site and am thinking of moving my keybase.io identities to it.
I really liked Keybase when it first came out, but over the years it's moved on from it's original core ideas.
Biggest barrier is just me taking the time to update/transfer all the different identities over.
@ecliptik @yarmo you can start with adding the identity proof notations to your key. They all follow similar format, and it takes no more than 20 minutes. After uploading your public key, your Keyoxide page will get the needed entries. Then you can take your time verifying them one by one. Trust me, it's worth it 😊
