“Eco-fascist rhetoric works to obscure the responsibility of white colonialism and its long history of destruction, as well as imperialist presences in predominantly black and brown countries”

I know the headline is "NPM joins GitHub", but it's hard not to read it as "Microsoft acquires Javascript"
I don’t post like I used to because the responses from men have become unbearable. The gamut of creepy, condescending or copycat. They do it in person at conferences too, which makes me think twice about speaking. (And I witness this being far worse for women less white than me.)
There's no upside to mass surveillance.

“We want to investigate the ecosystem of data exploitation, and we don’t think we can do that while shackled to it. And so we make a privacy promise to you, our readers: We will not track you.”
A media organisation that’s leading on privacy. This is SO COOL.

OH WORD. REALLY? YOU DON’T SAY!
Movies rant
Imagine repeatedly seeing a trailer for the same movie format. Every week a new movie with a bunch of women, talking to each other, looking badass, having personalities and doing interesting stuff. You'll see 15 or more people in each trailer, they're all female. Protagonists, female. Antagonists, female. Background characters, female. Plot, based on female interests. There's one man and he is.. pretty.
This is my movie experience, but obviously gender reversed. IT'S SO F-ING BORING!
‘meritocracy’ is a shit idea bc people don’t have equal access to ‘merit’
‘merit’ is an intangible quality that straight white dudes are basically assumed to have and that everyone else might possibly obtain with enough time and resources
bc we are not starting from a place of equality, ‘meritocracy’ results in gatekeeping and perpetuated exclusion out-group individuals
a better idea: people collaborate and support each other to mutually achieve individual *and* collective goals
This is doubly concerning because this isn't something you can opt out of or by a phone with a different OS. This is data from your carriers, which are required by law to use E911, which tracks your location. If you have a mobile phone, there's no alternative.

Git is planning to switch to SHA-256 soon. This is all great news, but the best thing is the command to convert an existing repo to the new hash. It reads like a shitpost and gets better with each argument:
git convert-repo --to-hash=sha-256 --frobnicate-blobs --climb-subtrees --liability-waiver=none --use-shovels --carbon-offsets
