I'm thinking about start looking for online resources related to the links the author gives (in case those links are not good or too expensive or something)
What do you think about that path?
Google Analytics is the largest and one of the worst trackers. It's used even on sites that promote privacy, GNU/Linux, etc.
There are some free (as in freedom) and privacy-friendly alternatives:
- #Matomo - https://matomo.org
- #Plausible - https://plausible.io
- #Shynet - https://github.com/milesmcc/shynet
- #Umami - https://umami.is
- #GoAccess - https://goaccess.io
Wait, what? So in Ubuntu the Home folder has been always open for all users?
I don't use Ubuntu anyway π

π Welcome to newcomers! π
A few personal tips:
π the Fediverse is NOT twitt*r! enjoy a more relaxed, courteous, benevolent way of interacting! you are part of it!
π€ introduce yourself! also fill bio and post a couple "toots" before following people to have more chance they'll follow back..
π favourite and follow generously! This is how to create link around. No algorithm-god is spying on you, telling you who to follow, what to read! \o/

I need some advise here. I have one year to change career and move to Berlin, and I want to become a Sysadmin. What should I study? This is what I'm doing right now:
- Studying for a LPIC-1 certification
- Taking a course on Bash scripting
What else would be a good start? I'm thinking about AWS courses and GoogleCloud services, but I'm not completely sure.
Thanks in advance! π€
This article asks some really important questions that need to be answered if Linux is going to see wider adoption. It reminds me of the weird Linux commercials IBM did years back that failed to really talk about Linux in a productive way. I'm sure there's a better way to do it.
So, this is what I have right now as a selection of better alternatives (self-hosted stuff included)...
Twitter -> Mastodon
Facebook -> Diaspora
Youtube -> LBRY
Gmail -> Mailcow (VPS)
Web-hostings -> LAMP (VPS)
Dropbox -> Seahub/Seafile (VPS)
I still haven't looked for Instagram alternatives. Do you know about any?
What do you guys think about Session (as an alternative for Signal)?
I've been reading a bit about it and seems as a good idea, but that ICO part gives me some concerns. Also, I'm almost sure that I've read somewhere that Signal will remove the need for a phone number*
(*): for someone like me, that moved from one country to another, and will move again during this year, would be really useful.
