Nheko 0.9.0 is out! A lot of people contributed to it, so check it out on Flathub or here:

The changelog is slightly longer than 500 characters, but look forward to lots of E2EE improvements, room directory support, custom sticker packs, token authenticated registration, new icons, jdenticons, animated images, accepting knocks, limited spaces support, message forwarding, a new media player and a lot more! 🐈‍⬛

One day I will get used to adding tags like or to stuff like this... One day.

@deepbluev7 hmmm doesn't run for me (flatpak, amd64, debian bullseye) :( the loading spinner just doesn't going away :(

@deepbluev7 yeah; gnome on wayland. nheko 0.8.2 runs nicely.

@scops 0.9.0 now requires some secrets service to be running (i.e. gnome keychain). I think the flatpak has some issues connecting to that and just hangs. So yeah, it is expected, that this would work in 0.8.2, since that just silently breaks in the background.

@scops Sure, that will just not launch at all, unless you are on Debian or Ubuntu:

Packaging is hard. :D

@scops It would be at least interesting to know, if it starts then, and we tried to make it easy to compile, if you pass a few bundled flags. If you get stuck, don't hesitate to reach out in

@lig Right, it is far too easy to forget, that the project you are working on for 2 years, might not be as familiar to everyone as it is to you. I'll try to keep it in mind, although I did provide at least a screenshot as well as a link to the project. But most people won't click a link, if they don't know, what it is about...

Thanks for all your work on #Nheko. It's my favorite #Matrix client on my beloved #Pinephone. Have there been any mobile layout improvements in this release?

@Blort There have been a few smaller improvements, mostly whatever one user reported in the room. The experience is probably still not great though, but we simply lack people daily driving it on the and giving us feedback or even fixing issues. For example, accepting invites should now be much easier, but you still can't access the spaces panel and the sticker editor window is too large for the screen.

Would it help to have issues filed on the tracker with screenshots?
