"There is no need to show your ability before everyone."

(Baltasar Gracián)

I've come across this again this morning via my book of proverbs, but the translation of it in Gracián's 'The Pocket Oracle and Art of Prudence' is slightly different.

Either way, this sentence (maxim?) had a large effect on me when I first read and dwelled on it. It states the absolute obvious, but for whatever reason, it freed me from a lot of self-pressure to look a certain way to all people.
