One of the most frustrating things about Linux development is how even if the source code is available, it’s practically impossible to learn what it’s doing, let alone develop for it. All the information is scattered around or either super outdated. It feels like there’s an in group that I’m just not invited to.

Over the last years I learned about things like Intel ME, libre hardware, homelab and privacy.
Buying libre hardware has better privacy (no intel ME) but has bigger costs, lower performance and has fewer options (easier to decide).
If I don't care about Intel ME and similar issues, I don't lose too much privacy, it will have smaller costs (comparing to the first), but it will be really hard picking hardware.
What should I choose for servers? I have the same issue and at laptops (X230 or other)
