So I volunteered at a high class private event with silent auction and raffle entries. The problem being that to enter said raffles it required us volunteers to have PayPal on our phones and manully enter each card info. They told us to connect to the publicly broadcast OPEN WiFi for internet. Just waiting to be taken advantage of security wise. Someone is going to get had one year and someone's going to be in a lot of trouble. There were politicians and CEOs there.

New episode about LIbre Lounge covering a different approach for how to mitigate spam, abuse, etc on the federated social web (and why other currently considered approaches aren't a sufficient foundation), moving towards "networks of consent" librelounge.org/episodes/25-ma

If you've heard me talking about OcapPub lately, this episode walks through a lot of the same ideas and arguably more approachably. (It may even make it easier for you to read OcapPub.) gitlab.com/spritely/ocappub/bl

Now that the wedding is out of the way and I actually have money again, I’m thinking about doing some upgrades to my desktop. The biggest being the screen.

I currently have 2x 21” HD screens, but I’m thinking about getting a single ultra wide, the using one (or maybe both) of my current screen in portrait.

Anyone got an ultra wide screen that can provide to feedback on their experience please?

Any prefered method for copy and paste over ?

I know there are a lot of options out there…

Has anyone ever put together their own desktop environment? Like, this one time I installed nothing but openbox, plank, and PCManFM, and PCManFM handled the desktop. It was the lightest system I ever used.

about the iNet Wireless Daemon, iwd.wiki.kernel.org/

It's a simpler and more efficent replacement to wpa_supplicant, which I've *never* liked. I've just set it up, but I'm really liking it a lot.

So far, it's been flawless—my only complaint is that searching for `linux iwd` gets swamped by gamers trying to run Icewind Dale on Linux, and now I can't stop thinking of iwd as meaning Icewind Dale :D

Ahahaha, Imagine, for researchers.

I'd like to use this month of vacation not only to relax, but also to become slightly less terrible at programming.

I used to be a (severely incompetent) Java dev, so I have some knowledge of programming. I'd like to build a few simple webapps so I can finally start contributing to .

Any recommendations on where to start? I'm thinking of taking a C course to finally learn some basics, and then picking up Python again.

Have any of y'all used ? (The ssh replacement?) it sounds like it has a few minor advantages that might justify switching, but I'm not sure if I'm missing any downsides

Ok, just went through a bit of a right of passage I'd somehow doged until now: my WM hard crashed durring an update, leaving me with an unbootable kernel.

A few hours (and a few boots to a live USB) later, and I'm back in and have restored the damage with no data lost. But it's (another!) wake up call that I need to be better about backing things up (and maybe find a WM that doesn't crash…)

And yes, folks, I know this wouldn't have been an issue with your distro :D

Hey @lubuntu, I read about your plans to port to using @sir's QtLayerShell—very cool! lubuntu.me/lubuntu-development

Is there anywhere I could learn more about the status of that work?

(Or does anyone else know?)

Have any of y'all used or any other distro that runs entierly from RAM? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_

How much speed increase do you see from running from RAM? What sorts of operations are faster?

Tech Support: A Limerick

You have a few problems computing,
And call them for help troubleshooting.
"I'm sorry" they say,
As you start to pray,
"But have you attempted rebooting?"

Does anyone know the original designer of the Ubuntu Orange/Purple colors? I want to buy that person a beer.
Such a gorgeous idea that sadly seem to be have been left behind in Canonical communications as the company moved forward.

Orange = End User
Purple = Developer

And sometimes Purple was "technical" and Orange "creative" or differences in community's etc.
Plus the purple, being darker used as background for the terminal.

Hey ? Do you use an alternate Android ROM other than LineageOS or Replicant? Which and Why?

there’s a fediverse site social.jesuislibre.net , which is presumably to be parsed “Je suis libre”, but I keep misreading it and now I am half tempted to register “jesusislibre.net”.
