Hey mastodon 👋

Any software developers here? What language/tech are you all using or just simply love?

I'm a software developer (though I'm not wild about that term). I've released projects in , , and (which has been my main focus lately). I've also played around a fair bit with , , , , and .

Of those, Rust and Racket are far and away my favorites

@codesections I have been looking at picking up a new language. I see tons of excitement around rust and golang these days.

What makes Rust great?

Lots of things! Some of my favorate features:
- High performance/low resource use (similar to )
- Strong support for (most) functional programming idoms
- Safety (no buffer overflows!)
- Strong support for/culture of small programs with clear API boundries ( philosophy)

@codesections Sounds awesome. Can you recommend any resources to get me started with Rust?

Sure! The main/official book is really good (and free, in both senses of the term). Working through it—slowly, if need be—is enough to get you started on a real project, so I'd say to dive in after that and build something small-ish that you'll use.

And then reach out with questions—either here or on r/rust (where people are impressively nice, especially for Reddit)
