QubesOS has a thing where you can run a program inside a virtual machine, and instead of getting an entire GUI of the VM, what shows up on the screen is the program itself, indistinguishable from programs run from other VMs.

Is this sort of technology available/applied anywhere else? Could I get something similar on my Linux Mint box, for example?

I know that you can transfer X.org applications through SSH, but my experience with it was extremely laggy, completely unlike what QubesOS had going on.

It seems that the extreme lag I experienced was due to going over a slow network. Just SSH'd into a virtual machine, enabled PulseAudio over the network and things seem to be buttery smooth.

@thatayush Haven't heard of this before, and Qubes does that for Linux VMs as well. But this looks very interesting, will definitely look into it!
