Does anybody know if having COVID for the first time with (presumably) BA5 will provide immunity from reinfection with BA5? Trying to Google it only brings up the stuff about BA5 reinfecting previous strains. It would be nice to not worry for a couple/few months until the next variant comes roaring though the US.
@chrisod I’ve been doing a bunch of digging on reinfections as I was probably infected with BA.5. There’s not a ton of info yet, but It appears that for those without other circumstances the answer seems to be that you have some protection. However, if you do happen to be reinfected you may be asymptomatic (but presumably potentially still contagious). I did join a research study to track my antibody levels/ongoing symptoms and at infection + 30 days I have a “robust” response.
@chrisod This general article had some interesting info: https://web.archive.org/web/20220727013520/https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/omicron-shattered-what-we-know-about-covid-reinfections-heres-why-you-may-be-vulnerable/
