I've been lurking here for a while now thought I might officially introduce myself. I am a software developer, cartographer, FOSS enthusiast, and bird watcher. I love to develop in and on with an

@chaptuck welcome. What does a cartographer do 2019 ?

@pranav I don't do cartography for work but I do enjoy maps and building web apps with map capabilities. I spend a bit of my free time doing GIS based things on QGIS (

Hello! welcome to fedi :)
seems we have quite a bit in common, between vim, ergodex, and FOSS software
hope you find a comfortable abode here on fedi

@y0x3y @chaptuck Oh hi there fellows ergodox users!

What's your layout and why?

@Naughtylus @chaptuck i'm using a custom layout that has a bunch of shortcuts tied to my WM so that i can easily move around my computer without a mouse. the keys are layed out in dvorak and i have a couple layers for special characters. the thumb buttons control my wm

how about you?

@y0x3y @chaptuck

I need to be able to type French accented letters, so I had to remap a French Canadian QWERTY and not a classic US QWERTY, which means I had to fight a bit with the online configurator to find where the symbols where in trial and error manner.

I'm also not quite happy with the mirrored layer. I thought it was a good idea for one-hand typing, but I don't use it that often.

@Naughtylus @y0x3y I use the Dvorak layout. I switched to Dvorak (from qwerty) about 3 years ago and it is more comfortable for me to type on than other layouts I have tried. I've making changes to my layout lately but this is what it looks like as of right now.

@chaptuck @y0x3y Three of us, and we're all using a dvorak layout, huh... What were the chances?

Though I've been meaning to try the workman layout. I like the "no weird finger moves" philosophy

@chaptuck welcome! Have you tried Fedora 30 yet? I'm afraid to because my delicate balance of package versions for the corporate VPN might go sideways 😋

@craig0990 I have been on Fedora 30 for about a week now. So far so good but my corp is pretty relaxed on what software I can use...I did need to remove a few custom repos before I did the upgrade but everything went well after I removed them.

@chaptuck I'll give it a shot after the weekend. I have free reign over my stack so long as I do full disk encryption and antivirus, but we use Junos for VPN, and the proprietary server has some issues with the latest GnuTLS libs 😭

I am looking forward to fractional scaling though - it's the little things in life... 😜
