Not sure why (yet), but Fedora 29 (Xfce) has been a bit flaky on my Dell Inspiron 13. Previous releases have run splendidly. Decided to give OpenSUSE (Xfce) a try while I try to workout the Fedora issues. It's been a few years since I've tried OpenSUSE and, wow! I've been missing out. This distro runs great on my hardware. I may give it a try on my server over the weekend.

@kubuntu users: Have you upgraded to 18.10? I tried it but experienced a few issues so I moved back to 18.04.1. I will say it was a bit snappier than 18.04, though. I think I'm going to wait a few weeks or maybe a month.
