You run a #FreeSoftware project? This is your occasional reminder to move away from #Discord and #Slack and other #Platforms.
As convenient as they seem, every "platform" is a #WalledGarden. They can and will pull the rug from under you any time it's in their interest, without regard for yours.
Migrate your community to systems under community control. Before it becomes a crisis.
Where your project should move to, is partly dependent on what you need.
Maybe #MatterMost, or #Discourse, or #Matrix. Just make sure it's community-controlled, and that it has many independent hosts, and that it is feasible to self-host.
Paying someone to host it for you is fine! But *not* if that locks your community to the provider; migration, whenever you want to, must be complete, with no gotcha clauses or locked-in data.
I, unfortunately, confuse #discord with #discourse all the time and struggle to remember which embraces #opensource and which is another walled garden. The result is that I'm basically avoiding both.
Naming similarities can be good, but often causes too much confusion.
