People, I'm writing a piece on how we still don't understand why people vote for Trump. To do so, I need a ton of links to articles that DO attempt to explain why Trump won. They don't need to be right! I just need a lot of articles. Could you send me any links you encountered recently? I already have these:
@untitaker yes, thank you!

@ecolhombre @bert_hubert good, but I take it one step further: ”It's the government, stupid.” https://rustema.nl/its-the-government-stupid/
@bert_hubert conservative opinion the NYT posted on the day after the election: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/06/opinion/donald-trump-2024-election.html (I don't agree with it)
@bert_hubert also the topic of Identity. This is not Trump focused but I think the argument plays a role in the explanation. E.g., https://www.chicagobooth.edu/review/how-identity-shapes-voting-behavior

And here why the US economy was less good than it seemed…
Social support pandemic abolished:

Benefits of growth incredibly unequally distributed :
Inflation being irritating:
@Akshay added Trump versus Biden:
The Macroeconomics of the Second Coming to the list, thanks!
@bert_hubert you have a conclusion you need cherry picked data for? This is a weirdly phrased request….
@letoams no, I need a ton of articles to show that there are a ton of articles. They don't have to say anything specific. It is a nice collection by now:
@zash yes, added, thanks!
@bert_hubert Saw this one just now as well: https://www.reuters.com/investigations/kamala-harris-made-historic-dash-white-house-heres-why-she-fell-short-2024-11-06/
(hesitated since it's about Harris, but I spotted a similar headline in the screenshot now)
@bert_hubert there are some videos on AOC who asked via Instagram why people who voted for her and democratic topics, also voted for Trump as president.
@bert_hubert Trump is a symptom of a much larger problem (there are many Trumps ...) - doing a root cause analysis will find the age old chestnuts of racism and lack of education explain most things ... otherwise populism politics makes people 'feel' ... a good politician that makes the trains runs on time hardly registers any kind of emotion ... I prefer my politicians to be boring and competent but what do I know ?
@bert_hubert An interesting essay which differentiates authoritarian and conservative people, and the need of "oneness and sameness" of the first that can be triggered by thresholds of complexity (real or just by exposure to media) perceived, leading to a need of complexity collapse (à la Tainter diminishing return on complexity leading to civilisation collapse).
Not wholly convincing but it looks like an interesting angle that we are very bad at addressing in modern democracies, and the framework seems to work well enough for it to be an useful model.
It's for last time Trump election, but it looks totally valid now, too, since what it addresses didn't changed in 4 years :

@bert_hubert whatever @mekkaokereke said during the campaign happened to have been realized. It's particularly true regarding "you never get as many swinger by getting more on the right (immigration, geopolitics, etc) than you lose blacks" (paraphrased, hopped I didn't change the gist of it)
Who is "we"?
Mainstream media? If so, then yes, "we" don't know why people voted for Trump.
Is "we" Black people? Then yes, Black people do know why people voted for Trump. Which is how all 3 elections, Black folk like me were able to predict with *stunning accuracy,* who would vote for Trump, and why.
Which is why all through Trump's 1st term, I was able to accurately predict that no matter what he did, his support would never drop below about 36%.

We keep pretending that there isn't peer reviewed research that shows what the most likely indicator of Trump support is. Yes, it's racism.
https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/112558361982843514
We keep pretending that "young Black voters are moving to Trump!" when in reality, they moved way left of Biden.
https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/113351037260387408
"We" just don't want to accept how many white folk in the US are OK with fascism, as long as it's pointed at Black people and called racism. Not all. But a big block.

@mekkaokereke The article is about how everyone is sure their explanation for outrageous voting behaviour is the right one. This seems like a nice addition to the genre.
