Hello, world! I joined a year ago to get a sense of the community and really enjoy it, so it’s about time I introduced myself.
I’m a finance professional, like the open source philosophy and enjoy hobbiest programming.
I write tons of automation scripts/macros, but fear having to maintain them beyond my own use so I haven’t released much. I do however enjoy teaching people how to build their own.
Happy to be here! If you want to know something more just ask!
@benjaminradio What do you write the scripts in? I'm learning Python. I'm not the fastest, but I've made a script that pulls the lunch menu from the Moodle site at work, zooms into the main region, and grabs the menu list for the day of the week that the program was ran on, and optionally speaks it using Google TTS.
@benjaminradio Welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay and find interesting people to learn from and teach to. And don't worry, sharing your scripts wouldn't give you responsibility, just open them for criticism :p
@benjaminradio welcome . Tell us one financial advice that everyone should know but only the people at finance know about
@lxzio Not sure I have a good one. Finance is about fundamentals, what I find interesting is how people apply them.
@benjaminradio welcome! 👋
please post something about finances from time to time, i feel like it's a topic oddly underrepresented on mastodon 😄
@benjaminradio : "...tons of automation scripts/macros...." - Could you please elaborate on this? I've spent lot of time, lately, working on my own Home-Authomation infrastructure (at both HW and SW level) and... wonder if your "automation script/macros" are somehow related...
I'm planning to release everything under open-source license (GPL) but... still have to find time to "package" the whole stuff and push it to GitHub/GitLab....
@benjaminradio welcome! you never know if someone could use what you've done! I'd encourage you to share :)
@benjaminradio Welcome to the world! It so happens just this week my brother was advising me that I could earn some nice money in automation scripts. I have trouble believing that anything whose principle I think I understand is something I could get paid for, though.
