Lukewarm take: if I need some special SDK to develop software for your Linux phone from my Linux laptop, you're doing it wrong... ahem, Sailfish and Ubuntu Touch.

Joe Biden has been president for 86 days and there are still concentration camps at the border.

qmetaobject-rs seems to be a decent bridge between Qt and Rust. Whisperfish is using it in a really interesting way: rubdos.be/corona/qt/rust/tokio

Hot take: Qt is the only decent reason to use C++.

Let's make a human readable data serialization format that fixes the problems with both TOML and YAML!

I caught someone using a pull request against one of my GitHub repositories to trigger crypto-currency mining via a GitHub action. I took a snapshot of it with archive-web-page here after reporting it to GitHub:

inkdroid.org/web-archives/gith

It seems like this is a thing now: bleepingcomputer.com/news/secu The only way to turn it off is to only run actions that are defined by the repository?

@JordiGH @liw Taking that further, when nobody has to use proprietary software. By this criterion, the free software measurement is a huge failure because nobody can do this. archive.fosdem.org/2019/schedu

@JordiGH @liw Even Richard Stallman asks people to email him web pages that require proprietary JavaScript. Stallman doesn't actually live without proprietary software (page 8 of this PDF assets.documentcloud.org/docum). He just asks other people to use it on his behalf. That's not helping anything; that's just some purity bullshit so he can feel smug.

How should success be measured for the free software movement?

For all people like to say how Matrix is great, its performance is awful.

What if Signal makes it easier to buy legally prohibited stuff through Signal than Bitcoin and people stop wasting enormous amounts of energy mining Bitcoing. 🤔 😆

The owner of the Signal Stickers project has decided to take no action on the antisemitic sticker pack because it's coded rather than blatant.,

@hider Personally, what I need from a smartphone is not much:
* SMS
* Calls
* Signal
* Email
* web browser
* music from microSD card

Everything else is nice to have but I don't need it.

The blocker for me using the PinePhone as a daily driver to replace Android is Signal. So I'm working to get a native mobile LInux client by decoupling Whisperfish from Sailfish OS. If you're interested in joining that effort, please help!

I wonder how long it will be until Chrome runs systemd inside it.

I asked @be a question, and they suggested to take the discussion public, so here goes:

Considering the ideas of Cooperative Technology (cooperativetechnology.codeberg), how could server-run software be controlled by the users, and how does open-source help in that?

Be :fedora: :pine64: boosted

@be @Lyude @aral @SwooshyCueb Seriously someone should do that though. Submit PRs to make this opt-out the default in Nginx and Apache, then watch the bros melt down.
