As of today, we have completed our relicensing of our main codebase from Apache 2.0 to the Affero GPL 3.0. This new license allows all the same uses by our station operators and resellers, but requires that any changes to our code be shared with the world the way our code is.
Today's Rolling Release version, and all subsequent Stable releases, will use the AGPL 3.0 license.
For far too long, we've had commercial resellers exploiting our work, improving upon it for profit, then refusing to share those improvements with the world. That ends today.
We are committed to the fundamental principles of open-source, and this change is necessary for us to be able to continue to remain fully free and open-source into the future.
Our stance is clear: if you build upon what we give back to the community, you must give back, too.
If you have any questions about how this licensing change affects you or your projects, please let us know via our GitHub or Discord communities. If you use AzuraCast as-is and don't modify the source code, you can continue to do so in the future with no changes needed.
