@atoponce I think there is an implicit message that suggests that old=bad, and that modern is better simply by the property of being new.

There is a lot of modern stuff that is absolute garbage. While this seems to not be true for this specific case, it's a bad assumption to have.

I read "modern" in this case as being able to use techniques and offer features that weren't around 20 years ago. (Hopefully also complying more with modern conventions that had not been established when the "old" tools were made.)

...although it's interesting that they're all commandline tools but the headline does not mention that.
