July, 2010 - I joined .

Sept, 2020 - I decided to take my microblogging to a decentralised platform and joined today.

It took me 10 years to understand the fallacies of a centralised network and finally make a switch.

@arghyadeep
Same here! In few days my twitter account age turns into 10. It is for few weeks I have made my Mastodon account the default microblogging platform and crosspost my toots into twitter. I will make some official announcement of its 10t annicersary that I wont check my twitter regularly as I have migrated to Mastodon.

I hope with this approach, I inform more people about mastodon.

@ahangarha, I think that's a good idea.

Hopefully, you'll be able to get your followers excited enough to migrate to .

@arghyadeep
Was this motivated by Netflix's "Behind our smoked screens" documentary ? 😅👌

@WNemencha Haha, not really.

The motivation came from a random chat with a enthusiast on .

@benis Think of it like a clone minus all the annoying attributes like , , data storage, , etc.

@arghyadeep but mastodon is a backend, you can't join a backend, only a server which runs it

@benis Oh, you meant like that.

Well, the folks behind state it as "an open source decentralized social network" on their site.

So, technically, I signed up on the Mastodon network hosting my profile on the @fosstodon instance.

@arghyadeep @fosstodon I could also call myself the queen of England but you'll never find me at Buckingham palace
@arghyadeep @fosstodon which is to say, there is no such thing as "the mastodon network", only interoperable servers which communicate over the ActivityPub protocol. Case in point: my server runs the Pleroma backend and it's able to communicate with yours, which uses the mastodon backend.

@benis Well, I'm a noob to this and referred and probably misinterpreted whatever the site said.

Thanks for the clarification. :)
