@arch_mage Feel free to drop by chat.pop-os.org, we have a Rust channel to help with beginners to Rust. We write all our Pop!_OS projects in Rust, and there's a never-ending supply of projects to tackle.
> So far I'm really liking #rust and feel like trying something more complex than "The Fibonacci Sequence" or "Print a n by m checkerboard in the shell". Still I'm nit confident enough to try my luck with #redox. Any suggestions?
I'd suggest a simple CLI app—either a reimplementation of one you commonly use or, even better, a brand new one that solves a minor problem in your daily workflow
I learned a lot trying to make a web server in rust. It has some interesting challenges when things are multi-threaded.
@caleb sounds like a good idea! You server was capable of serving arbitrary html? I'm not sure where to stop (actually neither where to start).
@arch_mage For a small piece of something I'm keen to create, how about something that applies CSS to some HTML (or XML) and outputs the results as XML.
Pro-tip: make sure you reuse Servo's existing parsers, that's where I went wrong.
