US politics
I've only posted half-jokes since it happened because that's part of how I manage rage and shock, but it's still stunning to me that there is now a "the Capitol riot" in American history. Not really surprising after everything, but shocking, stunning, and disappointing. The images of hundreds of National Guard troops marching to the Capitol will live for a long time, I think. I just hope that some kind of actual response is made soon.
(Your pessimism is understood but not required.)

@jordan31 "Condemned" is not an actual response. I'm glad politicians can at least agree to say that rioting in the Capitol is bad, but very little has actually been done.
US politics
@alexbuzzbee nothing was really done in other states where more destruction and block take overs happened. I doubt much will happen here. At least I don't think it should other than arrest the leaders.

@alexbuzzbee I don't want to give you any of that pessimism that you do not require, but I do want to point out that it is very weird, when you think of it, that the "Capitol riot" is what gets you. Police choking people to death, not cancel but complete shutdown of fringe and not-so-fringe groups of society, overwhelming "money gets you everything" thing for a "world's greatest democracy" is kind of a much more glaring issue that nobody in the US is addressing.

@alexbuzzbee its already been condemned
