@akiraux Thank you for your hard work on Akira! But this UI\UX design could be improved. What if I want to explore the popup menu? Now I ought to click on all item groups like "Open Recent" and "Shapes" and then click again to go back in parent menu.

What if make this popup behave like traditional menubar items: hover on subcategory - it reveals subitems on the right, hover on another - the previous hides and new - appears. This approach will definitely improve discoverability.

@gikari Traditional submenus are a bit of a nightmare in usability especially when it comes to touch interfaces. Don't get fooled by the preview as those menus and submenus will have many more items which with a traditional approach would make for a really annoying interaction on small laptop screens.

@akiraux well, maybe you're right, but it's hard to say for me now due to lack of menu items. However, it can be left as is, but with optional feature in settings to behave like traditional menubar, if the user have a large screen and a mouse. At least for some users it's easier and more familiar (and faster, if there is no shortcuts) to click one time, move the mouse and release, than clicking 3 times to do an action. But it's just a theoretical imho, better to make an experiment.

@akiraux Hi - looks nice. The switching menu is giving me a question: is this app using libhandy or something similar to make it look nice and easy to use on possible linux mobile / tablet devices?

@dukethereal
Support for touch interfaces it's part of the core objective of this app. We haven't implemented libhandy yet, but it will happen for sure.

@akiraux When I see designs like this I wonder what was wrong with traditional menus and what problem this new solution solves in comparison.
