1990: Rap music is making our children violent.
2020: Rap music is getting our children into "musical theater", wink-wink.
I now understand the hype around #Hamilton. I saw it on Disney# last night, and it is indeed amazing, in terms of music (rap!), visuals, and history. 🎵
Here's an open-ended conversation prompt! How do the fine folks at Mastodon consume the news?
Do you wait for an event to get big enough? Do you actively follow the news on a day-to-day basis? Do you think you've gotten trapped in a filter bubble?
On a macro level, what's your system?
If anyone's interested in these closely related topics, shoot me a message!
We shouldn't discriminate between Linux distros, but rather celebrate that you are using Linux. In the end, we are all using the same kernel. #FossLove
Hi folks! 9 years ago (to the day), the late Aaron Swartz made the first commit to SecureDrop, which was then called DeadDrop. Today the project is used by >70 media orgs around the world.
It's an open source whistleblower submission platform that uses the Tor network to protect source anonymity. We're also working on a next-generation integrated workstation for journalists based on Qubes OS:
We're happy to be here! #introductions
Some people think compatibility layers like #wine and #proton have a net negative impact on the Linux ecosystem, since they reward developers with Linux customers without allocating resources to Linux support.
However, the end user experience is often better when using Proton to play the Windows version of a game than it is to play the Linux version with native but afterthought support.
I recently redownloaded Payday 2 using Proton on Steam, and I get much higher framerates (+65 fps at times).
@Gina last time I used Mac OS I was horrified by the fact that highlighting an icon on the desktop and hitting the enter key would trigger the rename function instead of opening the file and/or running the associated program. To do the latter you would need the press cmd+o on the keyboard.
As a UX designer I'm traumathized to this day.
The real question is does Microsoft (and others) consider themselves masters?
Do they feel they're empowered or authorized to rule?
Is a white human being treated same as a black human being in same situation at Microsoft?
Are women and men considered equal at Microsoft? Do they receive same for same job?
