Just joined! Glad to be part of this!

I discovered Mastodon after reading about the "Re-decentralizing the Internet" movement. It hit me right on the nose. Being a developer who's worked in media and ad tech, and someone with kids, I'm concerned about the direction we seem to be moving in. Joining this community is my first small step towards decentralization of my "personal infrastructure" and taking back ownership of our data and privacy.

@adp Welcome to Mastodon and we're happy to have you here! :) When you say ad tech, what did you do there? I'm curious :)

@brandon I had worked at a startup (MyLikes - acquired by Uber a couple of years ago), that was a marketplace for matching ad buyers (Toyota, Minute Maid, EA, etc.) with social media influencers (Twitter and YouTube). Basically, you could get paid per click for tweeting out links for these companies.

@adp You ever get to speak with any of the buyers or influencers?

@brandon A lot of our engineering effort went towards fraud & spam detection, matching buyers with the most appropriate influencers, predicting ad spend, etc.

@adp Did any of this have anything to do with YouTube?
