So pleased to have come across rclone for backup/sync to cloud storage. Great utility, why didn't I know of this before.
And also v.pleased to have found Wasabi S3 cloud storage. Much cheaper than AWS S3.

If two political parties explicitly had platforms of "Make things better" and "Make things worse", a lot of people would call it unfair that the Make Things Better party's policy choices are more popular with voters.

"They know they wouldn't stand a chance against us if they tried to make things worse all the time like we do, so they just bribe people into voting for them by making things better! So much for honor, principles, loyalty, and courage."

I talk about leaving big tech behind a lot, but don't just take my word for it. Here's my thoughts on a Google employee who points out the dangers of relying on Google for all your data. chriswiegman.com/2021/01/relyi

Has anyone used opensourced gab.social self-hosted ?

Found a very good comment on hackernews by berkes about the successfulness of opensource and especially the fediverse:

> The ecosystem is vibrant, healthy, and will keep growing. > > in my mind there will eventually be a tipping point,

Why do so many people insist on Growth and Largest, as metrics for 'success'?

My local pub is a success. They are not worlds' largest pub. My Mom and Granny don't go there. They don't have parties with millions of people crammed in the place. Etc.

We've been bleating for years about walled gardens and big tech and closed source software, and only now have people finally seen what can happen.

Listen to your nerds, guys.

Big shoutout for , plain text accounting which can save large fees over conventional accounting software. AND at same time create sustainable access to data, rapid corrections. The alias function for account coding is awesome. Also the include function to unify or consolidate different data files is just sweet. plaintextaccounting.org/ and hledger.org
