Slackware is a Linux distribution created by Patrick Volkerding in Jul 1993. It is the oldest distro still in existence. However, someone was dissatisfied with Slackware and created another distro a month later, in August 1993. This was Debian, the second oldest distro, founded by Ian Murdock. Both of these distros are still maintained, and Debian is often known as the "mother distro" because it has spawned many more distributions. #Linux #OpenSource #history

@anthrocypher There’s a book to be written (or postmortem conference to be thrown) on the UX innovator’s dilemma, and how once you reach a certain point of “good enough” it’s both organizationally tempting to focus elsewhere, and considered very risky to “break” what is already working. PMs from twitter, Gmail, Wikipedia, etc., are all dying to share stories.

The beloved Pixie Boots socks are coming... to @SeaGL 2023! Find me at the conference Friday or Saturday, say hello, and ask about OpenStack Ironic and get a pair.

For bonus points, attend my talk on Trust in an Open Source Community and learn how the #1 thing to look for when finding OSS communities to trust is free hosiery.

Any OpenStack-Ansible users out there? The OpenInfra Foundation is hosting the Project Teams Gathering this week, with Operator Hours for the OpenStack-Ansible Service Team happening 17:00 - 18:00 UTC on Monday, October 23. Learn, deploy, or get help troubleshooting. Rocky Linux is a supported OS for OpenStack, so we encourage participation in this PTG. openstack.org/ptg/rooms/grizzl

I just got to experience a fire drill on the 65th floor of 4WTC. Seeing how FDNY approaches this inspires me to do better with briefing operations teams, preparing simple response mechanisms, and normalizing safety conversations. In 5 minutes the fire warden was able to make very clear to 35 or so people what to do and when to do it. "See a fire? Close the door. Walk to a staircase. Pull the fire alarm. Pick up the water phone. Tell them the story." -- What's the technical operations equivalent?

Ok, ok… I recycle, I compost, I bring my own bag to the grocery store. But hear me out, what if maybe, just maybe, WE GET THE G-20 TO REDIRECT THE $1.3 TRILLION IN ANNUAL FOSSIL FUEL SUBSIDIES TOWARDS SOLAR, WIND, AND GEOTHERMAL?!?

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! (Gift link, no paywall)
