If you are a #tchncs :tchncs: #matrix :matrix: user and cannot login after the maintenance:
A few people seem to have clients that really liked the old machine and still cache the old IP. Try logging out and in again, clearing cache, restarting the client or device. If you are affected, you currently receive the error code 502.

It's often assumed that because Twitter has a larger userbase than the Fediverse, that accounts would automatically get more followers there.

However, many accounts (especially FOSS projects) have more followers here on the Fediverse.

Some examples (as of 26th July 2021):

@fdroidorg has 10.8k vs 7.33k on Twitter

@k9mail has 1.57k vs 680 on Twitter

@Minetest has 1.39k vs 785 on Twitter

If you know any Libre projects that are yet to join the Fedi, please ask them to give it a go!

With a 1-dollar adapter and 3-dollar case from Aliexpress I can now use 2 SIMs + a microSD card with my phone which originally has only a hybrid nanoSIM/microSD slot.

@k9mail

Just blogged about it (b.jlel.se/s/49e) after musing about the Holo design in 2018 (b.jlel.se/s/9a).

Great work! Just set up a Liberapay donation 👍

Fediverse platforms should let users know which platform was from which account because domain names are often confusing. For example: If an account is registered on PeerTube, Mastodon would assign a tag to the account called "PeerTube account". Same way with other platforms, and vice versa. I think this needs to be in ActivityPub's code. Favorite and boost if you think this would be a great idea! 👍

Let me advertise here the app that can recognize birds from their voices recorded with a phone mic.
When just started I was absolutely amazed with it, and it still helps me to learn new birds' voices - for a couple of years it got much improved usability-wise.
What's important - it'll tell how certain the identification is, and you can always compare the recording yourself with a few birds it found close enough.

I think I will buy this thing to host my org-roam notes and other files that I need to be accessible between my computers at home.

Did you know, the main #OpenStreetMap carto style renders emojis in names? 👍 But in monochrome, not colour. 😭

what my girlfriend thought dating a software engineer would be like: "honey, I got an AI robot maid to do all our cooking for us"

what dating a software engineer is actually like: "if that microwave connects to the internet we're heating all our food with a blowtorch from now on"

Currently this instance (en.osm.town) is hosted & paid for privately by me. Should I move this to the OSMF payment & control?

I am on the OSMF Board BTW, and this was a recommendation of the OSMF's FOSS Policy Special Committee

Just updated with on my Sony Xperia XA2 from 16 to 18.1. After some glitches with microG push notifications resolved, I'm really happy about it:

* Network location appears more reliable than before
* Sattelite location starts in 2-3 seconds instead of 2-3 minutes, and it is now able to use BeiDou along with GPS/GLONASS
* VoLTE and VoWiFi now work!

I was arguing with a friend about mapping city trees in and then found opentrees.org.
Still not sure how practical it would be to collect such data by individual mappers, but this looks really cool!

Have found out that non-English toots are not welcomed here at , so let me just promote another account I'm going to use to toot in my mother tongue: mastodon.ml/@som

users here?
I've recently signed up and enabled the 2FA, but then realized that it only works for the web mail. I.e. I can still connect via IMAP using only normal password.
Isn't it horribly insecure? Do I miss something?
Even handled it better...
