I know I've publicly complained about what a pain #ARM is as a platform for open devices (from the perspective of an end user/normie), but I can't help but hope that @PINE64 comes out with a new #PineBook (The #PinebookPro is now a little over five years old).
This little device has its flaws, but I can't get over:
* The price (< 220 USD)
* The weight (1.2kg)
* The screen (14" 1080p IPS)
* The keyboard (one of the best laptop keyboards I've ever used)
... 1/2
...2/2
Just for fairness/completeness, the trackpad is bad, the webcam useless, and the battery life is mediocre (~4h).
P.S., Oh, and of course, the CPU is that of a 2016-17 chromebook ^__^
But still... sweet little device. I love mine.
Update: the battery is actually pretty good, 6-10 hours. The backlight changes battery life a *lot*, and I just switched back to a light theme.
@RL_Dane I have a Pinebook pro, and it’s fine. I agree about the keyboard, but everything else about it is very mediocre.
Having said that, I do enjoy playing with it.
@tedchoward @RL_Dane I don't know what keyboards y'all are using but the PP one is absolutely horrible IMHO. And so is the trackpad.
Still love it though, everything else is really nice for such a cheap and light device.
Huh! I actually like the PBP keyboard over my classic X200. I mean, I don't love the chiclet *shape* of the keys, but the responsiveness and clickiness is pretty nice.
@RL_Dane @tedchoward then either my keyboard specimen is exceptionally bad or you have no standards.
I thought the screen is pretty nice, though.
Reasonably bright and clear, good size and resolution
@RL_Dane @tedchoward @wholesomedonut
I think the PBP display is really clear and has a super low mirror effect compared to any other laptop I know.
Probably not the best but definitely very good.
@RL_Dane For me the battery life has been better than 4 hours
It's hard to give an accurate estimate. I do tend to run my backlight at full brightness.
How many hours are you getting?
@RL_Dane I have not turned on my pinebook pro in awhile but last time I did it was more about 10 hours but I can check again when I turn it on again
@RL_Dane I agree on the mediocrity of its battery life, and this is my coping strategy:

I'm actually getting a lot more battery life (~7h) now.
The thing is that I switched from a dark #Synthwave theme that I really loved (with transparency!), but I always had to run my backlight at 100% to see it well.
I switched to a pure light theme (#000000 on #FFFFFF), and now I can run the backlight at 60% very comfortably.
