When you actively program your app, service, whatever, to not work with proprietary software, specifically because it's proprietary and no other reason, you're coding against the spirit of FOSS.
You are actively telling your user base how they are allowed to use your software, and that you don't care about their intentions.
There will always be competing views on any piece of software and you will never please everyone. One beauty of FOSS is if it bothered one enough they could always fork the project to be what they wanted.
