No, I don't want to install an app to use these earbuds.

No, I don't want to install an app to activate my cable modem.

No, I don't want to install an app to powerup my dishwasher

No, I don't want to install an app to control my heating and lights.

Why are we taking away the interfaces that directly control these things? Apps can be helpful as an alternative interface and even increase accessibility, but when they are the only option it has the opposite effect.

Me: Taking the dog for a walk. Be back in an hr or so.

Wife: You’re not taking the with you?

Me: No. He’s not vaccinated, it’s 2 deg. C outside and there’s no way he could walk that far.

Wife: Hold my beer…

I love reading changelogs like this.

"The user interface has been redesigned. Some of you will love it, some will hate it. You’re welcome and we’re sorry."

Some thoughts on recent elitism (not sure elitism is the right word, but I can't think of a better one right now) I heard on Late Night Linux. ☹️

I've been plagued by dozens of daily calls for several weeks now. I'm not sure what could have changed, since it's the same mobile number I've had for two decades.

Today I discovered that the feature is much more feature-rich than I realized. I can literally throw any non-contacts call into -not-disturb land, while allowing all other traffic to come through.

I wish I'd have discovered this a loooong time ago!

I just received SMS from a complete stranger sending me photos of their American SSN card and birth certificate. Who in their right mind would send such important documents by such an insecure means? And to a wrong number even. Seriously.

A common misconception of Briar's threat model is, that it aims to offer anonymity.
In its current state it provides unlinkability but not anonymity. This means nobody else can discover who your contacts are, but your contacts may be able to discover who you are.

The reason for that is a usability trade off, between being an p2p messenger that also works offline and providing anonymity.
