Been doing some work on the app, trying to make the login process more robust and warning users if they're not logging in to a Pixelfed instance. Also trying to reduce technical debt somewhat.
What is the n° 1 thing you want fixed, changed or added first in PixelDroid? Answer here, or open an issue in our GitLab so we can get to it 😉
@PixelDroid How about "Ailur"?
@danialbehzadi @PixelDroid What does that mean?
@edgren @danialbehzadi the genus of the red panda is "Ailurus". It is the only species of that genus.
@PixelDroid "pixelfederApp" or "pixelfeed" ?
@PixelDroid Pixelfeder ? Pixelapp ?
@PixelDroid Here's some suggestions:
Gazo fido (image feed in Japanese).
Pictura (picture in Latin).
Amnis pictura or Amnis imago (picture stream or image stream in Latin).
I am a sucker for Latin and Japanese 😂 Personally, I like the name Pictura. It has a good feel when you say in out loud.
@PixelDroid @PixelDroid how about just PIX? Regarding the logo and mascot why not speak to @davidrevoy He did a great mascot for peertube:)
@PixelDroid Some variations - Red Pixel, Pixel Panda, Pixda or Pixeda
or "Bamboo" - what the red panda likes :)
@PixelDroid Fedipix
@PixelDroid Pixelfeddy
@PixelDroid redpanxel, pandapixel/redpixel, r-panda
@PixelDroid
Option to block!
"pixelfeder"
@PixelDroid Intuitive sign up/login. Haven't tried PixelDroid yet so login might be good already.
In Tusky you see a field where it asks "which instance?" and then a link explaining instances. People don't know what to write there.
Ideally there would be an instance picker on that page. See a number of instances then choose by tapping and then signup/login. No need to understand if it's a name or a domain to write or with or without https. Just tap tap you're in.
@JohanEmpa we actually looked at Tusky for the login process, so we also have a button "What's an instance" 😉
As for the second part, I don't think we want to list instances, that would mean implicit endorsement, and it's not right to play favorites in a system such as the federation imo. If it's a list, it needs to have all the public instances.
@PixelDroid yeah I can see the issue with listing instances.
And the what's an instance button is good.
It's just that there could be some more helpful info on that same page like a few examples. Again the issue with endorsing instances.
But I feel that it's too complicated to sign up assuming that a person gets the app before seeing any website. Assuming that the person isn't an engineer and just quickly want to try the app without reading theory about some new concept.
@PixelDroid just installed the app, looks good to me. What I'm missing somehow are the new search page features (trending, for you).
And you cannot see if you liked a post already, why not show a red heart if so?! Otherwise you would probably tap the heart again and thus unlike the post.
Tapping hashtags doesn't do what you expect. ... Anyways: Thanks for your work.
@assbach about the new trending features: just came out, and I don't even know if it's exposed to the API.
The hearts thing is because of something broken in the API. Something to do with caching. Should all be fixed with a server-side fix.
The hashtag API litteraly returns an empty array, so we can't implement that either
@PixelDroid Just suggestions from a users point of view. I know the API is lacking things
In other news, we need a new name 😢
Just like Davx5 (formerly DavDroid), we judge it too risky to keep this name, lest a certain megacorp comes knocking.
Suggestions welcome. I was thinking something to do with a red panda or its genus, since that is the Pixelfed mascot, but other ideas are also welcome!
