It's time! InfiniTime, the fully #opensource firmware for the #pinetime , has reached version 1.0. With this first end-user release, the PineTime is now considered an enthusiast-grade daily usage device.
@PINE64 incredible project! Hope the best for this amazing develoment, congra to all the dev community !
@PINE64 since the license is GPLv3, would you mind spreading any news about it as a "free" or just "libre software" rather than "open source"? The underlying philosophy is different for them and proper wording can help people understand what it means to use it.
@CodingOtaku Regardless of GNU's good intentions, "open source" gets the point across to the most people, which is the point of these news announcements.
"Free" is more likely to bring up monetary connotations than social ones, and "libre" isn't a universally understood term.
@PINE64 if the word "free" is the problem, traditionally we use "free (as in freedom)" to convey the meaning.
The point is that "open source" misses the point of what you are actually doing.
For the neutral people who contributes to free software but says opensource to get the word across, there is a term "FLOSS" (Free/Libre Open Source Software) which can also be used and still get the point across everyone.
Fosstodon is an English speaking Mastodon instance that is open to anyone who is interested in technology; particularly free & open source software.
