Apparently @Liberapay started taking SEPA payments in February. Does anyone know how this works? Does it go through Stripe, what are the fees?
I might make an account now, I didn't know this happened! Great news in any case.
So, Larry Sanger is actually on Mastodon: @lsanger
Pretty cool, although the "social media strike" thing still doesn't make sense to me.
Things deleted and added recently!
Deleted: Windows, Mac OS X, Keepass (this is actually OK), iCloud, Google Search, Gmail, Facebook, Messenger, Medium, Quora, drive-by politics on Twitter, Dropbox.
Added: Linux Ubuntu, Enpass, Brave, DuckDuckGo, LifeLock, self-hosted email, a mailing list, more blog, more Reddit, a VPN, Resilio Sync. Soon maybe: Purism Librem 5.
I'm calling a social media strike for July 4-5: https://larrysanger.org/2019/06/social-media-strike/
I know many here have already abandoned the likes of Facebook and Twitter. But if you're still there...announce that you're on strike (repeatedly?) on those days, in protest of these companies' abusive policies, and if you like, share this Declaration of Digital Independence: https://larrysanger.org/2019/06/declaration-of-digital-independence/

Corporations might match up with your morality now, but if (when!) they change their mind, we lose freedom. We need to reject the proprietary silos and solve this problem: get your favourite small youtuber to also upload to a PeerTube instance, stop helping the perverse system of advertising by installing an adblocker, ...
@poetgrant you're reading WoT?? that's pretty rad, where're you at? It's my favourite series ever.
Did you start reading because of the incoming threat of a TV show 😆 ?
What's MS up to now? Big mystery about some Windows 1.01 stuff or whatever. Maybe a Stranger things tie-in? or are they freeing the source of Windows 1.0? https://arstechnica.com/?p=1531001
OnionShare uses #Tor onion services to transfer files across the network. Onion services are untraceable and end to end encrypted. Since files to be shared are hosted by the sharer there is no limit on filesize. OnionShare is great for sharing sensitive information without having a cloud platform spying on the data or the transfer.

Interesting thoughts about snap and how it might be dangerous
Apparently Canonical is replacing the chromium package with a pointer to the chromium snap???
"as you install APT updates, Snap becomes a requirement for you to continue to use Chromium and installs itself behind your back. This breaks one of the major worries many people had when Snap was announced and a promise from its developers that it would never replace APT"
Wow. That's pretty bad...
Apparently LineageOS has vim and nano installed, you can use it with the terminal app that you can enable in the developer settings. They updated it recently
They also have a patreon now, which is OK I guess
They still don't have acceptable wording anywhere, and would still rather bundle google play if that were legal... So not my favourite project ever, but they're the only choice there is, and still mostly FOSS
Blackadder season 5??? Oh yes, a cunning plan indeed!
Atkinson was so very good in this role, and all the others as well (the queen in season 2 was particularly good, delightful to watch how she played the madness)
Brazil (1985) spoilers
Good movie, I liked the humour, especially the way no-one ever seemed to care when something was happening (bomb, raids etc) around them. The bureaucracy was very fun too 😉
Recognized an actor from Monty Python, and he didn't change much about the character he was playing compared to what he tended to do in the Flying Circus, so that was fun 😆
A bit of an expected twist at the end, but heart-wrenching nonetheless. Quite reminiscent of 1984 (the book, not seen the film)
Well that's one way for a young lad to lose his innocence!
Teaching Python to son and friends.
Son: Am I stuck with Xed the whole time? What are you using Dad?
Me: Well, I'm using Emacs. You could use Emacs but it's a bit complicated.
Son: Complicated? How complicated can a text editor possibly be?
FOSS extremist and evangelist, I like to read high fantasy (WoT 😍) and play Grand Strategy games in my spare time
