@poetgrant you're reading WoT?? that's pretty rad, where're you at? It's my favourite series ever.

Did you start reading because of the incoming threat of a TV show 😆 ?

What's MS up to now? Big mystery about some Windows 1.01 stuff or whatever. Maybe a Stranger things tie-in? or are they freeing the source of Windows 1.0? arstechnica.com/?p=1531001

is a and way to share files.

OnionShare uses onion services to transfer files across the network. Onion services are untraceable and end to end encrypted. Since files to be shared are hosted by the sharer there is no limit on filesize. OnionShare is great for sharing sensitive information without having a cloud platform spying on the data or the transfer.

@davidmcdougal @Matter It does that, but at a great cost. Snap is centralized, and controlled by Canonical. It also duplicates dependencies. The biggest issue though is how it discourages modifications: "You can’t modify, rebuild, pin, patch, mirror a snap, you’re not supposed to."

I think snap is great as a choice, but I personally don't like using them, and I don't agree with the decision to install it when a user is trying to use apt.

Interesting thoughts about snap and how it might be dangerous

Apparently Canonical is replacing the chromium package with a pointer to the chromium snap???

"as you install APT updates, Snap becomes a requirement for you to continue to use Chromium and installs itself behind your back. This breaks one of the major worries many people had when Snap was announced and a promise from its developers that it would never replace APT"

Wow. That's pretty bad...

Apparently LineageOS has vim and nano installed, you can use it with the terminal app that you can enable in the developer settings. They updated it recently

They also have a patreon now, which is OK I guess

They still don't have acceptable wording anywhere, and would still rather bundle google play if that were legal... So not my favourite project ever, but they're the only choice there is, and still mostly FOSS

Blackadder season 5??? Oh yes, a cunning plan indeed!

Atkinson was so very good in this role, and all the others as well (the queen in season 2 was particularly good, delightful to watch how she played the madness)

Teaching Python to son and friends.

Son: Am I stuck with Xed the whole time? What are you using Dad?

Me: Well, I'm using Emacs. You could use Emacs but it's a bit complicated.

Son: Complicated? How complicated can a text editor possibly be?

HK protesters seizing their Legislative body, raising the HK colonial flag, drafting a document requiring universal suffrage, hinting at overthrowing the "puppet government"...

Revolution in the air! Let's hope it doesn't end up in Tienanmen 2.0, but with freedom for all HKers! ✊ 🇬🇧 ✊

Apparently Netflix made a book with a side story for chief Hopper, in New York in the 70s

Put it on my list, but I don't know what I think about that

Legion (the FX series) is just... amazing. It's art. And apparently the third (and last) season is good all the way through (according to the critics), so I think this is going to live on my media server for a looong time, and I'll probably rewatch it a couple of times

Open call to action: Moderation app for fediverse software!

Okay, so my big dream is to get a job in a company / non-profit as a consultant / sysadmin / software integrator specialized in open source solutions.

I currently work in France for a big insurance company, and even with the benefits I get, I feel like I will eventually feel a strong need of contributing to free software
outside of my free time, in a professional environment.

Experiences / advices would be greatly appreciated. Not having many followers rn, boosts would help a lot ! Thanks :)

Does anyone get this (firefox)?

Open a new tab, then quickly open a link from the "top sites"

Switch back to another tab; the link you just clicked opens in this tab, replacing what was previously there. The new tab stays empty

> open Fosstodon
>realize I'm up to date, close the tab
> compulsively open Fosstodon again in a new tab

I have a problem. Not enough fuel here for efficient procrastination!

Maybe I should just... work??? Blasphemy!

New GOG galaxy client:

I wonder why they don't make these FOSS, they don't have any DRM anyway and making them FOSS would make me feel less dirty about using it (I mean, it's on my gaming HDD with windows so some more proprietary abominations are not a big deal, but still)

A twitter-like UI for Mastodon. Pretty neat, although I don't think it's a good idea in the long term since people might get more confused than anything
