Anyone know a good tablet that's not loaded down with DRM (which rules out all the kindles AFAICT)?

A definite plus would be ability to take handwritten notes/edit documents (eg, with a finger or stylus)

So far liking the Kobo line of devices, but no touchscreen/stylus or note taking capability it seems.

Not necessarily a deal breaker, but hoping to find something that ticks all the boxes

@evanskaufman You can put KOreader on your kobo, mine never runs Kobo's application now.

On first boot you have to edit the sqlite database to fake adding an account so that you can skip logging in with a Kobo account though.
