I recently got a couple of Wifi controlled plugs, and flashed them to Tasmota firmware to make them locally-controllable. Instructions here:
I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.
Excellent news for all of us as we really need our institutions to lead by example.
Then if @EU_Commission would start looking at adopting #ODF as the standard file format and @libreoffice as their office suite it would make it a lot easier to reduce the dependence from a handful of US corporations.
This seems like the sort of thing fediverse people would have an opinion on.
Quoting the Open Web Advocacy group: "🇺🇸US - The US agency NTIA is doing an investigation into Browsers and Web Apps. The EU is ending the #AppleBrowserBan, we need to ensure the US does the same and solve the core issues of Web App Equality/Interoperability and In-App Browsers. Save the web!"
Caught my son chewing on electrical wires, so I grounded him.
He's doing better currently and conducting himself properly.
I had one of those great FOSS experiences this week:

Hi fosstodoners, I am trying to create a simple.css based site in hopes of creating a Blog + CV site (I'm in the middle of a job application so it seemed adequate). For it, I made a small entry on some linux commands that I didn't know about, hopefully it will be useful to someone :)
Thanks to the great work of our contributors, here is another version of #Gadgetbridge . Although being "just a dot" release 0.63.1, it is full of great additions and invisible but much appreciated fixes.
New 🔔 icon opens early version of Reminders, where you can set repeated alarms with a text label, like "Go for a walk!" on supported devices.
#InfiniTime got initial support for step counting (currently very limited by the device firmware).

Thank you to everyone who bought something this weekend!
I haven't talked about it much here, but on my @matt blog I've mentioned that Write.as finally became modestly profitable earlier this year. It's only enough to sustain a single full-time developer (me), but it means I can keep building this, @writefreely, and our other projects indefinitely.
#InfiniTime 1.7.0 "Jackfruit" is out : manual date and time setting, new motion and step service, faster wake up and many more new features and improvements!
HOW COOL IS THAT!? My Pinephone, my Linux mobile phone ran the CI workflow of InfiniTime correctly and provided valid firmware in the end!
