What’s currently one of the more affordable S3 (compatible) options out there? Both storage and ingress/egress fees? Heard Backblaze was launching something as well, has that gone out of beta yet? Also, any methods out there to prevent massive traffic bills?

@Htbaa backblaze B2 has been out of beta for a while, and you get free bandwidth if you stick it behind cloudflare(though I do not support cloudflare for privacy reasons)

@thehedgeh0g but why would Cloudflare do that for free? Am I not paying for additional storage with CF then? I just learned Cloudflare had its own S3 offering as well.
I mainly want to host some video files that won’t be getting too much traffic, but might want to host and serve more through it.

@Htbaa Cloudflare does this through a partnership called the Bandwidth Alliance. You could host your videos on R2(cloudflare's S3 alternative), but they're both similar products. Either one, you only pay for storage if you proxy through cloudflare.

@thehedgeh0g thanks. Do you know with Backblaze if you’ll need to pay for a minimum of 1TB per month? Their calculator uses it as a minimum value but it’s not clear to me if you use say 100GB you’ll just pay for 100GB or a minimum fee for 1TB.

@Htbaa no, you pay for what you use. No minimums.

@thehedgeh0g @Htbaa What's the privacy concern with Cloudflare? My work is in love with then and uses as many of their products as they can.

@Sergio @thehedgeh0g having full control over your DNS when you only use it for CDN is a bit too much. But I guess I could always source another domain name and use that solely for CDN. On top of that Cloudflare seems to serve half of the internet. If it goes down a lot of stuff is inaccessible. Doesn’t happen often but it happens. The whole of the internet shouldn’t be centralized.

@Htbaa @thehedgeh0g Thanks for that clarification, I totally agree.
