There have been many reports lately that Facebook is blocking links to joinmastodon.org

If you are still on Facebook, please keep spreading the word about Mastodon and the Fediverse.

If joinmastodon.org doesn't work, try posting a link to a reliable instance people can join. There are so many instances, Facebook cannot block all of them from being mentioned.

That Facebook are even doing this implies the Fediverse is on their radar, which is quite an achievement in itself!

It must be 25 years since I've played it, but I still have nightmares about those hoverbikes in Battletoads

There's an alternative version of Mastodon called "Mastodon Glitch Edition" (aka "glitch-soc" or just "Glitch"). Glitch is totally compatible with normal Mastodon, but adds experimental new features.

For example, Glitch instances let the admin alter the character limit, allow local posting, text formatting and lots of other stuff.

Many features in Glitch have eventually made their way into normal Mastodon after proving themselves stable and useful.

You can find out more at:

glitch-soc.github.io/docs/

If you run your own Mastodon instance you can switch to Glitch, and switch back again if you don't like it.

(You may be wondering how this post is so long? It's because FediTips is on an instance that uses Glitch, and the instance character limit has been extended to 1000.)

To those complaining about vaccine mandates:

It isn’t mandating the vaccine by force. It's still your decision. If you're not vaccinated, you just need to get weekly testing. Sounds pretty common sense. Get a nose wipe a few times a week to make sure you won’t be killing others including your family. Of course, it's easier and safer to just get the shot.

This is how we keep schools, colleges and businesses open, folks. Get vaccinated. Wear masks where people can't be vaccinated. The schools and businesses shutting down are the ones that aren't doing it.

If you still don't want it, you still have an option. That option is to stay home and not work anywhere that's mandating a safe, effective vaccine that saves lives, including your own.

You don’t have to get a vaccine. You have your "freedom" to lose your job and your ability to go anywhere and see how much you make looking at QAnon accounts on the internet all day. #GetVaccinated

Saw a heavy duty pickup truck yesterday when I was driving home. It had business logos and a slogan on the doors and tailgate. Didn't think much of it until the logo caught my eye and I looked again:

Umbrella Corporation
"Our Business is life itself..."

I chuckled at the cleverness and willingness to spent that kind of money.

Not sure of anyone remebers thos game but I found Apogee’s Crystal Caves on GOG. Theres an HD / linux version that’s really good. I loved this game, even when it was shareware.

Tried , didn't really like the interface or setup. K-9 mail worked much better.

Just installed on my brand new Pixel 4a. Pretty simple install, after getting the udev issue sorted out on Ubuntu.

QUESTION - there are a few apps I unfortunately need to get from the play store. I installed the sandboxed PlayStore APKs from Graphene's repo, and in the instructions it says you can bypass the play store login... but I can't?

QUESTION 2: there are a few split APKs here:
apps.grapheneos.org/packages/c
Do I need them all? I installed the "base" after installing the other 2

Vim novice here. Just installed vanilla Vim on my new laptop and found out the hard way Vundle is depreciated for plugins.

Saw there is something with Vim8 - is this the preferred way, and is there a search function?
