One positive thing about corona

I've been commuting to an office for the last two weeks because it takes some time to receive all the secure equipment.

1,5 hours per day
5 days a week
=
7.5 hours of my own time lost to commuting. That's like working an extra day per week!

I feel like corona gave us the opportunity to realize the absurdity of this.

One positive thing about corona

@Gina same here. 2h every day saved, not to mention the environmental impact.

I hope companies keep this up for those job profiles where it's proven to work.

One positive thing about corona

@Gina I was commuting about 65 minutes each way. My child was born just before the pandemic - my company switched to wfh on my third day back from parental leave. Those two hours a day with kiddo were a gamechanger, and I'm never going back to an office.
I know exactly how you feel. 10 years ago I spent a whole year doing the same. It's insane, exhausting, expensive and so environmental unfriendly!

One positive thing about corona

@Gina I think Corona shifted everybody's focus point to the now instead of to the past or the future. We all came to realize there is only now and that there is a better place to be in the now. For most people that is with family, friends, pets or just by themselves at home or exercising outdoors.

Certainly not in traffic or packed like chickens in a battery cage we previously called the office.

One positive thing about corona

@Gina I've been going in to the office one day a week as we have a hardware testing project that can't be done remotely. I find it crazy that we used to waste so much time commuting!

On the more positive side, having a train to catch is a really good way to force myself to sign out for the day and get out of work mode.

@nigeldgreen @Gina

It does seem like it's one positive way it will change the world.

My first post graduate job my commute was a smidge over 2 hours each way on a good day. I told myself that was bullshit and I'd never do it again.

Been fortunate in the last ten years to have wonderful commutes. Always within 30 minutes walk or cycle.

Though I must say that I despise working remotely. But looks like I might have to get used to it.

@Gina
I am completely with you. It is such a waste of time and pretty much unnecessary (depending in one's job). Will you need to continue going to the office or was it just to pick up your equipment?

One positive thing about corona

@Gina Same here... I don‘t want go back to office anymore unless it is really necessary.

One positive thing about corona

@Gina I hated commuting when I did it. Now it's intolerable unpaid time theft.

One positive thing about corona

@stardot this is the correct definition.

One positive thing about corona

@Gina
Absolutely, and I won't go back to such an absurd level of commuting.
